Getting things done
At the end of the day, all of our practice management efforts must come down to one thing - getting things done. As a practice owner or manager, this generally means that to a large degree it's about successfully getting other people to do things (i.e. effective management).
As a result, at some point during the week (often on a Monday), Practice Managers often find themselves asking:
- How do I get my staff to do what I want them to do?
- Why do basic things get overlooked?
- Why do many routine tasks not get done on time?
- Why are some things not being done to the required standards?
- Why don’t staff use quiet times to get things done (ahead of time) instead of just trying to look busy?
- Why does the things go off the rails when I’m not there?
In the clinics we have talked to, most do not have good systems for managing the routine work that needs to get done day-to-day to keep the clinic running smoothly and to ensure that the clinic is staying compliant with regulatory requirements.
If you are to successfully address these issues and overcome these frustrations, we believe you must consider:
- How do my staff know what’s expected of them?
- How do I go about delegating tasks / assigning responsibility?
- How do I manage staff performance / accountability?
- How do my staff know what they need to cover when someone goes on holidays?
- Am I relying on my staff “just knowing” what to do?
In addition to the best-of-breed document and information management framework, Standard Practice offers practical ways of addressing these issues and provides a management framework within which you will be able to:
- Successfully delegate tasks, communicate expectations and assign responsibility
- Manage performance, while fostering accountability and self-management
- Ensure that each staff member knows what is expected of them on a day-to-day basis
- Develop and implement a systemised definition of how your business runs
- Reduce key-person dependency
Imagine...
- Less “putting out bushfires” and having to react to avoidable stresses
- Better-performing staff who are able to self-monitor (without you being over their shoulder)
- A much more smoothly run, less stressful clinic environment
- Having a solid foundation for profitable growth
- Increased compliance / reduced risk of commercial exposure
- “Sleep at night” factor knowing that the important things are getting done
- A more valuable and saleable business
